Durgiana Temple, Hindu temple in Amritsar, India
Durgiana Temple is a Hindu place of worship in Amritsar district, North India, arranged around a rectangular water basin. Marble facades frame the pool, while the central dome with gilded plates draws the eye upward.
Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya laid the foundation stone in 1925 after Guru Harsai Mal Kapoor initiated the construction project. Completion followed a few years later and included several subsidiary structures.
The complex displays fine glass mosaics and traditional Kangra paintings that illustrate stories from sacred texts. Worshippers use the surrounding walkways for ritual circumambulation and pause at the water basin for personal prayers.
The site sits about one and a half kilometers from Amritsar Railway Station and opens its gates at sunrise until evening. Separate entrances make access easier for pilgrims and other visitors alike.
The main shrine houses divine figures of Durga, Lakshmi, and Vishnu side by side, complemented by smaller chapels for Sita and Hanuman. This arrangement allows visitors to honor multiple deities during a single circuit.
