Raj Bhavan, Official residence in Patna, India.

Raj Bhavan is a three-story government residence in Patna featuring brick construction with plastered walls and an Allahabad tile roof. The building follows a north-south longitudinal layout with the ground floor housing administrative offices and upper floors containing formal reception and dining spaces.

The building was constructed between 1912 and 1917 and served as Government House for the lieutenant governor of Bihar and Orissa. When the provinces separated in 1936, its role as the primary administrative seat changed.

The Durbar Hall showcases teak flooring installed on springs and features ornate plaster work throughout, reflecting the craftsmanship valued during its creation. Such elaborate rooms reveal how much importance was placed on spaces meant for formal gatherings and official ceremonies.

The compound includes a botanical garden open to visitors, offering pleasant walking paths through landscaped grounds. Plan to spend adequate time exploring the spacious estate, as there is much to discover throughout the area.

The estate spans over 100 acres and includes a botanical garden established in 1970 by Governor Nityanand Kanungo. This green space often goes unnoticed by casual visitors who focus mainly on the main building.
