Safdarjung, Residential district in South Delhi, India
Safdarjung is a residential area in South Delhi with wide streets, modern apartments, and commercial buildings arranged in planned sectors. The neighborhood mixes residential complexes, shopping centers, and public spaces that shape daily life for its residents.
The neighborhood developed in the 1960s through land acquisition from Humayunpur Village to support New Delhi's growth plans. This expansion reflected the broader effort to build modern residential areas for the city's expanding population.
The neighborhood is named after Safdar Jung, an 18th-century Mughal nobleman. Today it functions as a residential center where families build communities around schools, markets, and local gathering spaces.
The area connects easily to Ring Road and nearby metro stations, making travel around the city straightforward. Its location offers reasonable access to the international airport for travelers heading in or out.
An old airstrip once operated here, and Safdarjung Airport continues to function on the same site. The airport now serves government flights and hosts the Delhi Flying Club.
