Mahi Bajaj Sagar Dam is a water reservoir created by damming the Mahi River in Banswara. The structure holds back water that flows across the border between Rajasthan and Gujarat, serving irrigation needs across a wide agricultural region.
Construction of the dam began in 1972 and was completed in 1983, when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi inaugurated the finished project. This engineering effort transformed water management in the region for farming communities.
The dam carries the name of freedom fighter Jamnalal Bajaj and honors his legacy in the region. Local communities view the water body as central to their lives, supporting fishing and agriculture throughout the area.
