Padargad, Military fort in Raigad district, India
Padargad Fort rises 2202 feet above sea level in Maharashtra, featuring two distinct rock pinnacles and a plateau between them.
The fort changed hands between multiple powers, including the Maratha Confederacy from 1739 to 1818 and later the British East India Company.
The structure functioned as a strategic military watchtower during the Maratha period to monitor movements through the Mawal territory.
The base village of Khandas connects to Karjat through regular transportation, with the final ascent requiring navigation through a narrow climbing path.
The fort contains a natural chimney formation requiring visitors to climb through a narrow 10-foot vertical passage between parallel rock walls.
