Tukreswari Temple

Tukreswari Temple stands on a hilltop, requiring visitors to climb steep staircases to reach the religious structure perched at the edge of a large boulder. The design uses the natural landscape, with the rock itself forming part of the architectural composition.

Construction of Tukreswari Temple dates to the 17th century when Bijni King Kumud Narayan ordered its establishment along National Highway 37 in Tukra. This temple reflects the religious importance this region held during that historical period.

The temple draws devotees especially during Durga Puja festivities, when visitors from across Assam gather to perform traditional Hindu rituals and ceremonies. These celebrations bring a sense of deep religious devotion throughout the grounds, felt in the prayers and hymns that fill the space.

The temple is located about 25 kilometers from Goalpara town and welcomes visitors throughout the day, whether you wish to attend ceremonies or simply observe. Wear sturdy footwear since the climbs are steep and walking on the stones can be demanding.

A population of around 150 Assamese macaques inhabits the temple grounds, identifiable by distinctive red rings around their eyes. These animals have learned to distinguish the voices of temple priests and respond to their presence.
