Bharateswar Temple, Hindu temple in Bhubaneswar, India.

Bharateswar is a sandstone temple featuring a circular base carefully carved from this light-colored stone. The outer walls display intricate carved patterns and ornaments visible throughout the exterior and at the entrance.

The temple was built during the Sailodbhava dynasty in the 6th century and ranks among the oldest religious structures still standing in Odisha. This early construction reveals how temples were shaped in the region centuries ago.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and draws worshippers who come daily to pray in this sacred space. Shivratri brings pilgrims together to celebrate with rituals and gatherings that mark the most important moment of the year here.

The temple sits on the road between Kalpana Chowk and Lingaraja Temple, making it easy to locate when exploring this area. The entrance is low, so bending down to enter is customary and shows respect for the sacred space inside.

The building follows a three-part architectural plan that divides the outer wall into three distinct vertical sections. This division was a signature feature of Kalinga style during that era.
