Tadkeshwar Mahadev Temple, Valsad, Hindu temple near Abrama town, Valsad, India.
Tadkeshwar Mahadev Temple is a Hindu temple on the bank of the Wanki River in Valsad, Gujarat, India. Inside, a large Shivlinga stone rests at the center of the shrine, and the roof has a wide opening directly above it that lets natural light fall on the stone.
According to local accounts, villagers discovered a semi-circular Shivlinga stone on the northern bank of the Wanki River in 1215. That discovery led to the gradual building of a shrine around it, turning the spot into a place of worship.
During the Shravan month and on Maha Shivaratri, the temple grounds fill with pilgrims who come from across the region to offer prayers. Temporary fairs take over the open courtyard, giving the site a festive energy that contrasts with its usual calm.
The temple is open throughout the year, and the Shivlinga is easiest to see when daylight comes through the roof opening, so a midday visit tends to work well. During major festivals, the site can get very busy, so arriving early in the morning makes the visit more comfortable.
Two separate attempts to build a solid roof over the Shivlinga are said to have failed without clear explanation, and the opening in the roof has remained ever since. Many devotees see this not as a flaw in the building but as a sign that the stone was meant to stay connected to the open sky.
