Konni Forest Division, Protected forest division in Kerala, India
Konni Forest Division is a protected woodland in the Western Ghats of Kerala with tropical forests and extensive teak plantations covering about 331 square kilometers. The area contains diverse habitats and serves as part of a larger UNESCO World Heritage site.
The forest division was established in 1897 as one of the first managed forest territories in the region. This early foundation marked a shift toward organized forest conservation in Kerala.
Local communities have maintained knowledge about forest resources that shapes how people interact with and care for the woodland today. This relationship reflects practices passed down through generations within the region.
The forest can be accessed through several entry points in Konni, Mannarappara, and Naduvathummoozhy where guides are available for walks. The terrain is extensive, so allow adequate time to explore different parts at a comfortable pace.
