Kharaqan Towers, Medieval mausoleum towers in Qazvin Province, Iran
The Kharaqan Towers are two octagonal brick structures standing roughly 13 meters tall with sides measuring about 4 meters wide. Both buildings display carefully arranged brick walls with geometric patterns and different interior arrangements.
The eastern tower was built in 1067 while the western one dates to 1093, and both served as mausolea for Seljuk rulers. These structures represent an important period of Islamic architecture in the region.
The eastern tower displays interior frescoes and mosque lamp designs, while the western tower preserves a prayer niche showing how Islamic architecture was expressed in these structures.
The site is located about 1 kilometer from the village of Hesar Armani and can be reached by regional transport. Visitors should check local transportation options in advance since the location is somewhat remote.
Each tower carries inscriptions from different architects both named Muhammad and Abu'l-Ma'ali, who were sons of Makki al-Zanjani. These signatures document each builder's individual work in the structures.
