Qarasu Old Bridge, Arch bridge in Kermanshah, Iran.

Qarasu Old Bridge is a stone arch structure spanning the Qarasu River with six curved sections that distribute weight across the water. The construction combines stone blocks, brick, and lime mortar to form a solid crossing for travelers and goods.

This bridge began as a Sasanian construction but underwent significant modifications during the Seljuk period and later work by Safavid architects. Each phase of development left its mark on the engineering and design of the crossing.

This bridge served as a vital crossing for pilgrims and merchants moving between Iran and sacred sites across the border. The structure reflects how important this location was for regional exchange and travel.

The bridge sits roughly 10 kilometers east of the main city and is fairly easy to reach by car or local transport. Wear comfortable shoes and expect uneven surfaces with some historic cracks and worn stone steps along the path.

The bridge displays features from three distinct building styles because each period left its own construction methods and techniques. If you look closely, you can spot different stonework patterns in various sections of the structure.
