Zagros Paleolithic Museum

Zagros Paleolithic Museum, Archaeological museum in Kermanshah, Iran

The Zagros Paleolithic Museum displays stone tools and animal fossil bones from archaeological sites across Iran organized in four exhibition rooms. Visitors can see artifacts, fossils, and a life-sized Neanderthal model that illustrate how people lived during ancient stone age periods.

Founded in 2007 and opened in 2008, this institution became the first Iranian museum dedicated specifically to Paleolithic discoveries. This early commitment to ancient research helped establish a new direction for how Iran's archaeological heritage was presented to the public.

The museum displays skull replicas from European and Middle Eastern sites, helping visitors understand how researchers trace connections between different regions during early human periods. These reproductions show how people interpret and share knowledge about our distant past.

The museum is located in a historic building in the city center and is relatively easy to reach on foot or by taxi. The interior layout is straightforward with information signs, though a guide can help explain the archaeological details and connections between different objects on display.

The museum holds two exceptional quartz tools from the Kashafrud site, notable for their rare quality and form. It also houses an extensive collection of animal fossils from Wezmeh Cave that reveals what creatures lived in this region during ancient stone age times.
