Bisotun Cave, Prehistoric cave in Harsin County, Iran
Bisotun Cave is a limestone cave near Mount Behistun that extends approximately 8 meters into the rock. Natural formations inside show geological processes that took place over thousands of years.
Excavations in 1949 uncovered stone tools from the Middle Paleolithic period that were used by early inhabitants. The findings show that the cave was visited and used by people over a long span of time.
The site, also known as Hunter's Cave, shows traces of early human settlement from prehistoric times. Today visitors can see evidence of how the first inhabitants lived in this shelter.

Remains of around 109 extinct animal species from the Pleistocene era were found in the cave layers and reveal a rich prehistoric animal life. These discoveries tell us about the ecosystem that surrounded the early hunter communities.
