Wezmeh

Wezmeh is a cave in Eslamabad-e Gharb County in western Iran containing geological formations and fossil remains from ancient times. The site sits approximately 470 kilometers southwest of Tehran in a mountainous area where researchers continue to study the discoveries made here.

The cave held remains of Neanderthals dating to approximately 25,000 years ago, revealing early human presence in the region. Animal fossils found there span from 70,000 to 11,000 years ago, showing a long history of wildlife in the area.
