Ziwiyeh Castle, Ancient hilltop fortress in Saqqez County, Iran.
The stone fortress consists of three distinct levels built at an elevation of 1,835 meters, featuring 21 stone stairs and adobe walls.
The castle functioned as the capital of the Mannaeans during the 9th century BC before becoming a residence for the Medes and Scythian civilizations.
The second floor contains residential rooms adorned with painted walls in blue, cream, black, and brick colors, reflecting ancient Iranian architectural traditions.
Located 55 kilometers east of Saqqez city, the fortress includes advanced water piping systems that connected to mountain springs for sustainable water supply.
Archaeological excavations at the site revealed the Ziwiye treasure, including a golden necklace decorated with mythical animal engravings now displayed in museums worldwide.
