Chitgar Lake, Artificial lake in District 22, Tehran, Iran.
Chitgar Lake is an artificial lake covering 130 hectares of water with 120 hectares of developed shoreline in District 22. The shore includes walking paths, sailing facilities, food establishments, and wildlife observation areas.
The project was planned in 1968 as part of Tehran's first master plan but remained undeveloped for decades. Construction finally began in September 2010 after many years of delay.
The lake is called Lake of the Martyrs of the Persian Gulf, named to honor those who died in regional conflicts. Today it functions as a gathering place where people from across the city come to spend time outdoors together.
The lake is easy to reach with adequate parking and clear paths for all visitors. Early mornings or late afternoons are best for visiting since the weather is more comfortable and crowds are lighter.
The lake receives most of its water from Kan Creek, which supplies about 80 percent of the lake's water. This water source also helps replenish the city's underground aquifers and improves Tehran's overall climate conditions.
