Þórufoss, Waterfall on Laxá í Kjós river, Iceland
The 18-meter-high Þórufoss waterfall creates a powerful cascade of water flowing over round cliffs east of Lake Þingvallavatn in southern Iceland.
The waterfall and surrounding area maintain evidence of ancient Norse settlements, with the name referencing Thor, the god of thunder in Nordic mythology.
Þórufoss gained international recognition when HBO selected it as a filming location for Game of Thrones, representing the mysterious home of forest dwellers.
Visitors can reach Þórufoss by taking Route 36 from Mossfellsbær, then following Route 48 for 5.6 kilometers until reaching the marked parking area.
During winter months, the entire waterfall transforms into a frozen structure, creating natural ice formations that completely alter its appearance.
