San Severo

San Severo is a commune in the Province of Foggia that spreads across a flat plain at 90 meters above sea level, surrounded by agricultural fields and vineyards in the Puglia region. Streets run through the center where residential neighborhoods sit beside older stone buildings and newer constructions.

The settlement evolved from an ancient Greek foundation into a medieval trade center and experienced major growth after Benedictine monks built a church in the 11th century. Later centuries brought further architectural expansion and establishment as a regional hub for agriculture and wine production.

The Teatro Giuseppe Verdi forms the cultural heart of town and presents theater plays and musical performances throughout the season. Locals attend this venue regularly for evening shows that often feature classic Italian works and regional productions.

The Festa del Soccorso features fireworks displays where participants run alongside explosive devices, following centuries-old traditions. This unusual spectacle draws many spectators each year who come to witness the interplay of courage and local custom.
