Chiesa di San Lorenzo delle Benedettine, Baroque church in San Severo, Italy.
Chiesa di San Lorenzo delle Benedettine is a Baroque structure with a central floor plan and bell tower. The exterior features a marble facade from Apricena and a dome topped with colorful ceramic tiles.
Giuseppe Astarita designed the church, which was later transformed by Ambrosio Piazza. Modifications in 1782 brought stucco decorations and additional altars.
The name recalls the Benedictine nuns who once lived here and ran the monastery. Today visitors can see the artistic touches they left behind throughout the interior.
The interior is accessible to visitors and functions as an active place of worship. The best time to visit is outside of service times so you can view the architectural details without interruption.
A notable feature is an organ from 1740 attributed to Fabrizio Cimino positioned in the central matroneum. This instrument reflects the musical traditions that the nuns cultivated here.
