Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Administrative division in Sicily, Italy
Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Messina on the northern coast of Sicily. The town sits in the plain between the Peloritani Mountains and the Tyrrhenian shore.
The municipality was created in 1934 by uniting Barcellona Sicula and Pozzo di Gotto. Both settlements began as farming communities during the 16th century.
The procession of Varette on Good Friday presents twenty-six decorated floats through the streets, depicting scenes from religious traditions.
Regional trains stop at the railway station and connect the town with Messina and Palermo. The A20 motorway runs along the southern edge of the municipality.
The town name refers to a well that Nicolò Goto dug during the 15th century. Latin documents from 1463 record this work and gave the later district its name.
