The cylindrical tower of the castle rises 9 meters high with 2-meter-thick sandstone walls and features two distinct levels connected by stone steps.
Frederick II of Aragon ordered the construction of the castle in 1324 to fortify the settlement of Cristina as recognition for their loyalty against the Angevins.
The castle includes a palatine chapel dedicated to Candelora, which served as the primary place of worship for local residents during the Aragonese period.
Located at Salita Federico II d'Aragona in Castroreale, the castle tower remains open for visitors who can climb two flights of stairs to reach the entrance.
The castle structure maintained its strategic military function until the late 1900s when it was converted into a district prison facility.
