Castello di Castroreale

Castello di Castroreale is a medieval fortress featuring a prominent cylindrical tower constructed with thick sandstone walls and connected by internal stone steps across two levels. The structure includes a chapel space and allows visitors to climb interior stairs to access the upper sections of the tower.

The fortress was founded in the 14th century under Frederick II of Aragon to strengthen the settlement and reward local loyalty to the crown. It served as a key defensive structure throughout medieval and early modern periods.

The chapel inside the fortress served as a gathering place for prayer and community life during medieval times. This sacred space demonstrates how the stronghold functioned not only as a military structure but also as a religious center for local people.

The tower is accessible to visitors who should be prepared to climb interior stairs to explore the upper sections. Wear comfortable shoes as the narrow passages and steps require some physical effort to navigate.
