Duomo di Milazzo

The Duomo di Santo Stefano stands in Piazza Duomo as the largest church in Milazzo with a neoclassical altar and several decorated interior spaces. The interior shows 20th-century architecture with clean lines and a bright, orderly layout.

The current building opened in 1953 and replaced an older sanctuary damaged during the Battle of Milazzo in 1860. This event marked a turning point in the city's history and led to the reconstruction of this central place.

The cathedral contains several paintings and frescoes that tell religious stories and depict the life of Saint Stephen. These artworks give a sense of the artistic tradition that has been maintained in this place over time.

The cathedral is located in the center of Milazzo on Piazza Duomo and is easily reached on foot. Visitors should keep in mind that this is an active place of worship, so respectful behavior is appropriate.

The cathedral treasury holds a golden silver reliquary from 1688 containing the remains of Saint Stephen. This precious object is one of the oldest and most valuable pieces the community possesses.
