Castello di Santa Lucia del Mela

The stone fortress stands on Mount Mankarru, featuring a cylindrical tower and underground chambers overlooking the rivers Floripotema and Mela.

The castle construction began in the 9th century, later modified by Frederick II of Swabia who used it during hunting expeditions in the mountains.

In 1673, the castle transformed into the Sanctuary of Madonna della Neve, incorporating marble statues of Saint Lucia and Saint Blaise.

The castle functions as a religious center, educational facility, and historical site, offering guided tours and spiritual retreats throughout the year.

The castle library maintains a collection of ancient texts, including incunabula and sixteenth-century books documenting regional history.
