Ivrea

Ivrea straddles the Dora Baltea at an elevation of 253 meters (830 feet), surrounded by five lakes including Sirio, San Michele, and Pistono. These bodies of water shape the surroundings, offering calm spots away from built-up areas.

Romans founded Eporedia in the year 100 BC as a military post to control Alpine passes. Later the settlement became a Lombard duchy and then the capital of a Frankish county.

The name comes from the Celtic word for horses, recalling a time when the area thrived on breeding. Today the connection lives on in local memory, while streets carry the imprint of industrial-era buildings.

The central railway station links the town to Turin and Milan, both served by regular trains. The location works well as a base for trips to nearby lakes and mountain areas.

UNESCO recognized the industrial architecture developed during decades of typewriter and office machine manufacturing. These buildings show a particular link between work and urban design vision.
