Locorotondo, Administrative town in Valle d'Itria, Italy.
Locorotondo is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Bari, situated in the Valle d'Itria in the Apulia region. The historic core forms an almost perfect round shape with narrow alleys leading to small squares and whitewashed houses topped with gray tile roofs.
The settlement began around the year 1000 as an unfortified village under the supervision of the Benedictine monastery in Monopoli. During the Middle Ages, the place received city walls and expanded outward in concentric rings.
The name derives from the round city walls that once surrounded the center and remain visible in some sections today. Residents maintain a close connection to their vineyards, which adjoin the last houses and are tended by many families.
The town sits between Martina Franca and Alberobello and offers regular train connections to both cities as well as to Bari. The center is easy to explore on foot, as the alleys run flat and most points can be reached within minutes.
The white wines from the area carry a DOC label and come mainly from the Verdeca and Bianco d'Alessano grape varieties. Yields are limited to 13 tonnes per hectare, which ensures concentrated grape quality.
