Minareto di Fasano, Italian national heritage villa in Fasano, Italy
Minareto di Fasano is a villa with Islamic-inspired design featuring a prominent minaret tower and multiple terraces overlooking the rolling hills near Selva di Fasano. Today it serves as a venue for exhibitions and cultural events managed by the Municipality.
Built in 1918 by nobleman Damaso Bianchi following his travels through Islamic regions, the villa introduced Eastern architectural influences to the area. The construction brought workers and materials from Tunisia to the project.
The villa functioned as a weaving workshop where Benedetta Tangari taught textile techniques that blended Eastern methods with local Valle d'Itria practices. The spaces still reflect this artisanal heritage today.
The property sits on elevated terrain with panoramic views of the surrounding hills but requires walking to access all areas. Check ahead about exhibition schedules and opening times, as access depends on planned cultural activities.
During social gatherings, an acetylene lamp was lit atop the minaret tower, serving as a beacon visible across the surrounding region. This illuminated signal made the villa a recognizable landmark for the area.
