Fasano, Administrative town in Province of Brindisi, Italy

Fasano is a town in the Province of Brindisi that spreads from the Murge hills down to the Adriatic coast. The landscape features ancient fortified farmhouses and traditional white-washed trulli structures surrounded by centuries-old olive groves.

The settlement began in 1088 as a small farming community called Casale di Santa Maria di Fajano. It later became a possession of the Knights of Malta, who controlled the territory for several centuries.

The name comes from the ancient church of Santa Maria di Fajano, which offered shelter during medieval raids. Walking through the streets today, you can see how traditional building styles still reflect this protective history.

The town is served by a railway station on the Adriatic line, making it easy to reach by train. The SS 16 road connects directly to the coast and nearby villages.

The Archaeological Park of Egnatia holds remains of an ancient Messapian settlement, including a Roman forum and an early Christian basilica. These sites show how different peoples lived and left their mark across many centuries.
