Temple of Castor and Pollux, Ancient temple in Roman Forum, Italy
The Temple of Castor and Pollux displays three remaining marble columns standing at a height of 12.5 meters in the eastern section of the Forum.
Constructed in 495 BCE to commemorate the Roman victory at Lake Regillus, the temple underwent multiple reconstructions during the Republican and Imperial periods.
Romans gathered at this temple to make offerings to the twin deities Castor and Pollux, who represented protection for sailors and travelers crossing the seas.
The temple remains are accessible through the Roman Forum entrance, with guided tours available from April through October between 8:30 AM and 7:00 PM.
The podium of the temple served as a speaking platform for Roman politicians and later functioned as a banking hall for money exchange operations.
