Museo del Novecento, Modern art museum in Piazza Duomo, Milan, Italy
Museo del Novecento is an art collection housed in a restored building on Milan's central square. The rooms spread across several floors and display Italian works from eight decades of the last century.
The collection opened its doors at the start of the twenty-first century in a structure from the nineteen thirties. The building itself was once a symbol of political power and was later repurposed for cultural use.
The name means Museum of the Twentieth Century and refers to the period it covers. Visitors today see paintings and objects from a time when Italy redefined itself through art and broke away from tradition.
Entry is through the side facing the square and passes through security checks. Upper floors are reached by lift or stairs that run through bright corridors.
On the top floor hangs a neon work that stands out through its glow and at the same time opens the view toward the nearby cathedral. The windows frame the Gothic towers in a way that makes art and architecture speak to each other.
