Pellarini Lodge, Mountain hut in Julian Alps, Italy
Pellarini Lodge is a mountain hut in the Julian Alps set at 1499 meters (4918 feet) on the northern side of Jof Fuart mountain, with room for up to 46 guests in shared accommodations. The lodge provides access to hiking routes in the surrounding area and remains open during the warmer months.
The Trieste section of CAI established this mountain lodge in 1924 and named it after Luigi Pellarini, a World War I casualty. Following the devastating 1976 earthquake, the structure underwent major reconstruction.
The kitchen serves traditional Friuli dishes, and visitors can find vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free meal options that reflect local mountain food traditions.
The lodge is reachable on foot in roughly two hours from the village of Valbruna along a well-established hiking route. Plan your visit between June and September when the facility is fully operational and staffed.
The lodge underwent complete modernization in the late 1980s following earthquake damage, transforming it into one of the better-equipped mountain huts in the region. This renovation makes the overnight stay more comfortable than many other similar facilities in the area.
