Arco

Arco is a mountain commune located at the northern end of Lake Garda in Trentino, where the landscape features prominent limestone cliffs rising above the town. The terrain is dominated by these rocky formations that shape the local geography and environment.

The area was inhabited during Roman times, as shown by archaeological remains scattered throughout the region. An ancient bridge over the Sarca River still stands today, evidence of settlement and trade routes from centuries past.

Climbers from around the world come to Arco to practice on the limestone walls and compete in the Rock Master event, which has become central to the town's identity. The sport has shaped how locals view and use the surrounding cliffs.

The town is well connected by public buses to other cities and towns in the region, making it easy to visit. A cycling path runs along the Sarca River toward the lake, offering a scenic route for those who prefer biking over driving.

The castle of Arco was captured in a watercolor by Albrecht Dürer, which hangs today in the Louvre Museum in Paris. This historical artwork reveals the fortress through the eyes of a Renaissance master and connects the small town to major European art history.
