National Museum of San Matteo

The National Museum of San Matteo is an art museum in Pisa housing medieval and Renaissance artworks from across the region. Its galleries display paintings, sculptures, illuminated manuscripts, and ceramic pieces arranged throughout a restored monastery building.

The museum opened in 1949 inside a former Benedictine monastery built in the 11th century. It preserves religious artworks that were gathered from churches throughout the Pisa region over many centuries.
