Eparchy of Piana degli Albanesi, Greek-Catholic eparchy in Metropolitan City of Palermo, Italy.
The Eparchy of Piana degli Albanesi is a Byzantine Catholic church serving several communities in the Palermo region. It comprises fifteen parishes organized around its Cathedral of Saint Demetrius the Martyr as the spiritual center.
The eparchy was established in 1937 and grew from pastoral needs of Albanian settlers who had arrived in Sicily from the 15th century onward. This creation formalized the spiritual structures supporting an already rooted community.
The eparchy observes Byzantine liturgical traditions that you can witness in its religious services and church architecture. The Arbëreshe language remains actively spoken during ceremonies and within the daily life of local communities.
The administrative offices are based in Piana degli Albanesi and coordinate religious services for the local faithful across several communities. Visitors can attend services at the various parish churches distributed throughout the region.
The five communes forming the eparchy maintain rare continuity between late medieval settlements and modern religious life today. This connection between past and present becomes visible in the daily practices and celebrations of residents.
