Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, Motorsport racing track in Misano Adriatico, Italy
Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli is a motorsport racing track in Misano Adriatico that stretches across 4064 meters, combining tight corners with straight sections. The facility includes pit lanes, grandstands, and safety zones that meet the requirements of international motorcycle and car competitions.
The track opened in 1972 as Circuito Internazionale Santa Monica and served mainly local competitions. A comprehensive redesign in 1993 extended the facility and brought it to international standards for world championship races.
The name honors Marco Simoncelli, a motorcycle racer from Emilia-Romagna whose death in 2011 at Sepang moved the racing community. Many visitors come not only for the races but also to pay respect to a local hero.
The complex offers conference rooms, restaurants, a medical center, and car rental for visitors on race days. During larger events, up to 60,000 spectators find seating on grandstands along the track.
The racing direction switched in 2006 from counterclockwise to clockwise, which only a few international tracks have ever done. This change fundamentally altered the stress on tires and brakes and required drivers to approach familiar corners in a new way.
