Neptune's Grotto, Sea cave in Alghero, Italy.

The cave system extends over 2770 meters beneath Capo Caccia promontory, featuring limestone formations and a large saltwater lake called Lamarmora.

A local fisherman discovered the cave entrance in the eighteenth century, but visitors could only access it by sea until the Escala Cabirol staircase construction in 1959.

The grotto takes its name from Neptune, the Roman god of the sea, and contains numerous geological formations including stalactites and stalagmites in multiple chambers.

Visitors can reach the cave through a 654-step staircase carved into the cliff or by taking a boat trip from Alghero port during favorable weather conditions.

The cave complex includes an underwater section with additional caverns, forming a submerged karst system where the largest chamber is called Nereo Cave.
