Plestia, Archaeological site in Colfiorito, Italy.
Plestia is an archaeological site near Colfiorito containing remains from multiple periods, including regular street layouts, public buildings, and residences from different eras. The finds range from the Iron Age through the Roman period and show the layers of different settlement phases.
The area was already settled during the Iron Age before Romans established an organized settlement in 178 BC. Over the following centuries, the site's use changed until the town was eventually abandoned.
The settlement served as a meeting point between different regional peoples over many centuries. Inhabitants maintained connections across neighboring cultures, leaving traces of their own traditions visible in the excavated objects.
The archaeological remains lie beneath the Church of Santa Maria di Pistia, which marks the location of the former settlement. Visitors should know that most finds are displayed in museums, while the excavation site itself is partly hidden under modern structures.
Beneath the present church lies the foundation of an ancient Republican-era building, possibly a temple or portico. This structure is one of the best preserved records from that time at this location.
