Nuraghe Tanca Manna, Nuragic tower in Nuoro, Italy.
Nuraghe Tanca Manna is a Nuragic tower structure in Nuoro built on a granite promontory overlooking Monte Ortobene. The single tower features a tholos dome and two opposing niches in its interior design.
The site was built during the Middle Bronze Age and was surrounded by about 150 rectangular dwellings, as excavations in 2005 revealed. These houses provide insight into the settlement structure of this ancient culture.
The structure shows how the Nuragic people used locally available granite and built it into their structures with skill. You can see clearly how natural rock and shaped stones were combined together.
The site is located in the southern part of Nuoro and can be reached via Via Martiri della Libertà. Guided tours are available to explain the features of the site.
The site shows an interesting transition from rectangular to circular dwelling shapes in Nuragic settlements. This shift is clearly visible in the ruins and helps understand how this culture developed.
