Monte Cristallo

Monte Cristallo is a mountain peak near Cortina d'Ampezzo that rises 3,221 meters with multiple summits connected by a jagged ridge. This formation belongs to the Dolomites massif and stands out for its distinctive rocky structure.

The first recorded ascent took place in 1865 when mountaineer Paul Grohmann reached the summit via the Normal Route. This path has remained a popular climbing route for visitors ever since.

The mountain sits within a UNESCO World Heritage site where the rock formations shape how people experience the northern Italian Alps. Visitors come here to walk through this special landscape and explore the mountain culture reflected in the nearby villages and valleys.

The climb starts at Passo Tre Croci and takes roughly four to five hours to reach the summit. You should prepare for changing mountain weather and bring sturdy footwear for the rocky terrain.

Two glaciers sit on the northern side: the Ghiacciaio del Cristallo and Ghiacciaio del Popena. These ice fields create a striking visual feature as they catch the light on clear days.
