Seekofelhütte, Mountain refuge in Pragser Tal, Italy
Seekofelhütte is a mountain refuge situated below Croda del Becco at 2327 meters, located in the Pragser Tal area. The structure provides shelter and meals for approximately 46 guests during the summer season.
The refuge was built in 1907 by the Austro-German Alpine Club of Eger section and was originally called Egererhütte. Over time, the structure has been adapted while maintaining its role as a key stop for mountain hikers.
The refuge serves as a meeting point on the Alta Via delle Dolomiti 1, where visitors encounter traditional Alpine hospitality. It connects multiple hiking routes through the surrounding natural parks and attracts people from different regions who share a passion for mountain exploration.
The refuge is accessible via hiking trail number 1 from Lake Braies, a walk that takes about three and a half hours with an elevation gain of roughly 900 meters. Start early in the day and prepare for mountain conditions at this altitude.
Each August, the refuge hosts a special event for observing meteors, allowing guests to watch night sky phenomena with guided assistance. This evening offers a rare chance to experience the wonder of stars from this high altitude location.
