Carpi Cathedral

Carpi Cathedral is a religious building with a Latin cross floor plan and Baroque facade that dominates Piazza dei Martiri. The interior contains multiple chapels and altars arranged according to traditional religious architecture.

Construction began in 1514 under the patronage of Alberto III Pio with Baldassare Peruzzi as the architect, replacing an earlier church from 756. The building underwent modifications and expansions over the following centuries.

The cathedral contains a Chapter of four dignities including the Archpriest, Archdeacon, Provost, and Dean, along with seventeen Canons serving the religious community.

The main entrance is located on the plaza side and is easy to spot. After extensive restoration work, the building is open to visitors and features improved interior lighting.

The building remained closed for several years following a 2012 earthquake but underwent major restoration and reopened in 2017. This renewal brought modern systems while maintaining its historical appearance.
