Monte Sacro Alto, Residential district in northeastern Rome, Italy.
Monte Sacro Alto is a residential district in northeastern Rome covering an area of approximately 2.2 square kilometers within Municipio III. It features a densely populated layout with mixed residential and commercial buildings, with Via Ugo Ojetti serving as the main shopping street and Largo Sergio Pugliese as the central plaza.
The district was officially established on September 13, 1961, following the development of rural land formerly owned by the Talenti family during the 1950s. This expansion transformed the northeastern area from countryside into a residential neighborhood as the city grew outward.
Streets and squares throughout this area are named after writers, poets, and journalists, giving the neighborhood a literary character. This naming tradition reflects the intellectual identity that the district has developed over time.
The area is walkable and well-connected by public transportation, particularly through Largo Sergio Pugliese which serves as the main transportation hub. For the most comfortable experience, it is best to explore the quieter side streets during peak hours, as the main shopping street can be crowded.
The area preserves patches of the original Agro Romano countryside through three parks: Parco Talenti, Parco della Cecchina, and Parco delle Mimose. These green spaces offer a glimpse of the rural landscape that existed here before the urban development took over.
