Santi Apostoli, Renaissance church in Cannaregio district, Venice, Italy
Santi Apostoli is a church with a single nave supported by two columns and several altars positioned along its interior walls. The interior shows the result of Renaissance-era renovations that retained elements of the earlier structure.
The church was founded in 1021 and underwent major transformation in 1575 under architect Alessandro Vittoria. This renovation created the Renaissance appearance visible today while preserving the original foundations.
The Corner Chapel holds two Lombard tombs of Marco and Giorgio Corner, relatives of Queen Caterina Cornaro of Cyprus. These monuments reflect the family's ties to Venetian nobility and their global influence.
The church is located at Campo Santi Apostoli in the Cannaregio neighborhood and is open daily for visitors. You can find it easily by walking through the streets around the square, with free entry to explore the interior.
The bell tower was designed by Andrea Tirali and features distinctive elements including an onion-shaped dome added in the 1700s. This architectural blend makes the tower a notable feature of the square.
