Ca' da Mosto is a palace with Venetian-Byzantine style architecture located near the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal. The structure features narrow arches, ornate capitals, and a seven-opening loggia on the first floor facing the water.
The palace was built in the 13th century and purchased in 1266 by Marco da Mosto, who gave it his name. Later it housed a hotel called the White Lion before being transformed in more recent times.
The building carries the name of a merchant who purchased it in the 13th century and established his family here. Its facade with delicate details and openings speaks to the wealth and taste of Venetian traders of that period.
The palace sits directly on the Grand Canal and is easy to spot from the water, especially from near the Rialto Bridge. The building is now a hotel and can be admired from outside, with its architecture making it a key point on a Grand Canal walk.
A famous explorer named Alvise Cadamosto was born in this palace in 1432 and later worked with Portuguese seafarers. His travels and discoveries made him an important figure in early exploration.
