Castle of Lettere, Medieval castle and military museum in Lettere, Italy
The Castle of Lettere features a trapezoidal structure with four towers, including a high keep and the Torre del Grano storage tower.
The Duke of Amalfi ordered the construction of this fortification in the 10th century to secure the northern borders of his territory.
The castle museum displays pottery, bronze objects, and animal bones that reveal dietary patterns and trade connections from the 10th to 16th centuries.
The military museum received 2000 visitors in 2020 and exhibits archaeological findings from excavations that started in 2007.
From its position, the castle provides direct views from Castellammare port to the Sarno river mouth and the Gulf of Naples.
