The castle remains an essential part of Italian national heritage, representing the architectural evolution from Norman to Aragonese influences in southern Italy.

The fortress contains fourteen water wells throughout its structure, which served to maintain water supply during extended defensive operations.

The internal structure includes a basement, ground floor defensive positions, and two upper levels arranged around a central courtyard.
