Castello di Castellaro Lagusello

Castello di Castellaro Lagusello is a medieval fortress in Monzambano with four towers positioned at the corners of the defensive walls. These towers work together with the thick walls to create a compact defensive structure built around a central courtyard.

The Scaligeri family from Verona built this fortress, which later passed between the Visconti and Gonzaga families of northern Italy. These changes of ownership reflect the complicated political history of the region during the late medieval period.

The fortress shapes the appearance of the small village and feels like a stronghold from another era. Visitors walking around the walls experience how medieval construction and nature coexist in this place.

Access to the castle is by walking path, and sturdy shoes are recommended since the ground is uneven in places. Climbing into the towers requires physical effort, but rewards visitors with views across the surrounding landscape and nearby lake.

The fortress is divided into two different sections: a northern area with a square tower and drawbridge, and a southern residential zone facing the lake. This separation shows how defense and daily life were physically divided in this place.
