Église Maria Santissima del Carmine

The Chiesa Maria Santissima del Carmine is a church blending Gothic and Baroque styles in Naples' Mercato neighborhood. Its most striking feature is the bell tower, which rises to approximately 75 meters and displays different architectural orders across its facade.

This church was founded in the 13th century by Carmelite friars who arrived from the Holy Land. The building later witnessed a major conflict in the 15th century involving regional powers vying for control of the city.

The church is deeply woven into the daily life of this neighborhood, serving as a place where locals come for personal prayer and reflection. The annual July celebration brings people together to witness the traditional lighting of the bell tower, making it a meaningful occasion for the community.
