Chiesa di San Mauro, Religious building in Villanova district, Cagliari, Italy.

The chiesa di San Mauro is a limestone church with a single nave divided by rounded arches that support its barrel vault ceiling. The interior space features three side chapels on each side, creating a symmetrical layout typical of religious buildings from this period.

The church and connected monastery were founded in 1646 by Canon Francesco Gaviano as a replacement for an earlier chapel. That previous structure had been dedicated to the Virgin of Health.

The building serves as an active place of worship and monastic life, where Franciscan friars continue their daily routines. Visitors sense the connection between the religious space and the adjoining convent, which shapes the rhythm of this location.

The building is located on Via San Giovanni in the Villanova neighborhood and can be reached through the provided contact numbers. Keep in mind this is an active monastic community, so visiting hours may be limited to certain times of day.

One of the side chapels houses a reliquary containing the remains of Saint Salvatore da Horta. This sacred relic draws pilgrims and those interested in religious history to the site.
