The Chiesa di San Francesco features high pilasters on its plastered facade and a portal created by Leonardo Incrivaglia in 1730.
Originally built as a Norman Gothic temple in the 11th century, the church underwent a transformation to Baroque style under Monsignor Francesco Maria Grifeo in 1680.
The single-nave interior contains stucco decorations attributed to the Orlando workshop, complemented by frescoes painted by Giovanni Battista Scannatella.
The church stands at Piazza San Francesco in Mazara del Vallo, with underground chambers that visitors can explore during opening hours.
The church's crypt, dating back to 250 CE, served as both a burial site for early Christians and a refuge from persecution.
