Sant'Antonio Abate, Baroque church building in Rieti, Italy
The church features a central nave with side chapels, covered by a barrel vault with lunettes and ending in a semicircular apse.
In July 1570, the Sacramento Company commissioned Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola to design a new church to replace the small chapel at Sant'Antonio Abate hospital.
The church maintains a connection to agricultural traditions through an annual horse parade, continuing the legacy of animal blessings during Saint Anthony celebrations.
The church building remains closed since 2003 due to structural damage from the 1997 earthquake and incomplete consolidation work.
During restoration work on the main door in 2018, workers discovered a late 17th-century coin within the structure.
